About Her Holidays

The world needs more women at the forefront. That’s why we created our Women’s Expeditions. Led by trailblazing leaders and packed with immersive experiences that open the door to everyday life for women around the world, these trips are all about shattering the barriers of traditional tourism and amplifying the voices pushing for gender equality. It’s adventure travel and female empowerment rolled into one. And sharing it all with a small bunch of like-minded women? That’s pretty special too.

Why choose us

Small, women-only groups

Our Women’s Expeditions are capped at 12 travellers per group – small enough to connect with the local women but big enough to create a good social mix. These trips bring women of all ages and backgrounds together, with many joining solo, but everyone’s united by a passion for female empowerment and experiencing new cultures.

Women lead the way

These trips are led exclusively by female leaders – though ‘leader’ doesn’t quite cut it. These women are trailblazers breaking stereotypes in places where they’re often limited by traditional gender roles. They’ll make sure everything runs smoothly, share tips to help you squeeze more out of your time and give you a women-centred insight into the culture.

Impactful experiences

Supporting women has a ripple effect on entire communities. We’ve partnered with dozens of women-led businesses, social enterprises and NGOs to provide authentic cultural experiences that directly support the livelihoods of women and girls. Think zipping around Siem Reap with female tuk-tuk drivers or trekking the Himalayas with an all-women crew.

Travel with confidence

The reality is that safety is one of the biggest concerns for solo female travellers. But that’s the power of a women-only group. Whether it’s taking an overnight sleeper train in India or strolling back to your hotel after dinner, there’s a sense of support and solidarity in knowing you’re all looking out for one another. It helps you explore with confidence.

Gender equality

We’re doing what we can to champion gender equality and inclusiveness – on our trips and through our work with our not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation.

Frequently asked questions

Why are you operating these women-only expeditions?

Cultural and religious factors mean that interaction with women in some countries can be challenging and complex for mixed-gender groups. For example, at the male-operated desert camps we stay at in Jordan, it’s not socially acceptable for men to be alone with our female travellers, so the opportunities for connection are limited.

By the same token, most opportunities for our mixed groups to spend time with local women are usually in the presence of men in a controlled environment.

We see these trips as an exciting opportunity for female travellers to go behind closed doors and learn about the customs, challenges and everyday lives of women across the globe.

Like our Expeditions, these are certainly offbeat adventures! But what sets them apart is cultural, not geographical. In traditionally male-dominated countries, or places where women are not viewed as equal, certain traditions and customs can make genuine cultural interaction difficult.

While these trips are a great way to enjoy the sense of sisterhood while travelling in a women-only group, they’re very much about opening up experiences that aren’t always possible with men present.

We also aim to support women in more ways than simply working with female-owned businesses – like visiting NGOs tackling period poverty and hiring women porters and trekking guides to help more women build their careers in historically male dominated industries.

We’d love to open up these trips to all our travellers, but in order to operate in a socially responsible and culturally sensitive way, it’s just not possible – at least not yet.

These trips visit many private, women-only spaces like hammams and homestays, meaning they’re only accessible for female travellers.

Private departures are definitely possible. Get in touch with our Tailor-Made team and we’ll do our best to create a trip that meets your group’s specific needs.

If you’re interested in travelling on one of our Women’s Expeditions or have any questions or concerns about any of the activities, please get in touch with our adventure consultants.

Everyone should feel comfortable when they travel and we know that many of our travellers are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. It’s important for our travellers to be aware of the local laws and customs in the destinations we visit as some countries have laws that discriminate against LGBTQIA+ people. We recommend visiting Equaldex for up-to-date advice and information about LGBTQIA+ related laws.

Unless you pay for an individual room, solo travellers will be paired with another traveller of the same gender as per your passport information. If you have concerns about this, please let us know when booking.
